Taylor Lautner may bring 'Max Steel' to life

"Twilight Saga" star Taylor Lautner has another potential movie franchise in his sights: Teenage superhero Max Steel. Lautner's team is talking with Paramount about having the breakout star of "New Moon" lead a "Max Steel" movie, the LA Times' Hero Complex blog reports. The studio acquired rights to the character, which began as a Mattel action figure and spawned an animated series that ran earlier this decade. The cartoon series was about a 19-year-old extreme-sports athlete who was exposed to nanotechnology, which fused with his body to make him nearly invulnerable. He then goes to work for a secret government agency. Here's a look at the cartoon: Lautner will host "Saturday Night Live" on Dec. 12 and has two movies due in theaters next year: The romantic comedy "Valentine's Day" and the third "Twilight" film, "Eclipse." 'FlashForward,' 'V' will return in March

"FlashForward" is taking a sizable winter break, and "V" will be paired with "Lost" in the spring, ABC says. The network announced Thursday night that "FlashForward" will go on hiatus until March 4, which will give it a 12-episode run to end the season. "V," meanwhile, will return on March 30, moving from 8 p.m. Tuesdays to 10 p.m. after "Lost." In both cases, the return dates will put their respective shows' season finales in the middle of May sweeps. "FlashForward" aired a trailer for the second half of the season at the end of Thursday's episode, which was the show's 10th. The March 4 return date means that the show's 19th episode should air April 29, 2010 -- the date to which the shows' characters flashed when they blacked out in the pilot. That jibes with previous comments from the show's creative team, who have said that April 29 wouldn't be the season finale. The most likely candidate to replace "FlashForward" in January and February is probably the legal drama "The Deep End," ...

'Doctor Who': Final David Tennant special premieres Jan. 2

Americans will say goodbye to the tenth Doctor in the new year. The final "Doctor Who" special "The End of Time, Part Two" starring David Tennant will premiere Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, at 9 p.m. ET/PT, a week after "Part One" airs on BBC America on Dec. 26, the network announced Thursday. Not only that, but fans can also catch "The Waters of Mars" special the week before on Dec. 19. In the finale (check out the "End of Time" sneak peek we posted earlier), Tennant will encounter the Master (John Simms) again after his nemesis is reborn on Christmas Eve. Casting call: 'Heroes'' Sendhil Ramamurthy takes NBC pilot

"Heroes" actor Sendhil Ramamurthy is (perhaps) moving on from the show to another project at NBC. Ramamurthy, who plays Mohinder Suresh on "Heroes," has taken a role in the network's drama pilot "Rex Is Not Your Lawyer," joining David Tennant, Abigail Spencer and Jeffrey Tambor in the cast. Jane Curtin has also signed on. The Hollywood Reporter says that "Rex" is in second position to "Heroes" for Ramamurthy, meaning that "Heroes" would take precedence if both shows wind up on NBC's schedule next season. (Both shows come from NBC sibling Universal Media Studios.) Ramamurthy has been absent from the past couple episodes of "Heroes"; when we last saw him, Suresh was being checked into a mental hospital by Hiro (Masi Oka) in attempt to hide Suresh from villain Samuel (Robert Knepper). Whatchoo talkin' 'bout? Twitter, 'Twilight' and swine flu, apparently

The Global Language Monitor has released the most-used words of 2009. Twitter tops the list, to the surprise of no one under the age of 70. Twitter, the social networking phenomenon that is sweeping the nation, topped the list. President of GLM, Paul JJ Payack, said that it shows "how big Twitter is globally." But the firm was slightly surprised that Michael Jackson didn't crack the Top 5. The second word on the list was "Barack Obama," while "H1N1" came in third. That's a bit of a surprise to us; we figured "swine flu" would split the usage with "H1N1," driving it further down the list. Rounding out the Top 5 are "stimulus" and "vampire." One can assume those two terms are not related and that "stimulus" refers to an economic item... but with the way Robert Pattinson looks playing Edward Cullen, could go either way. 'Twilight: Breaking Dawn' may be broken in two movies

Moviegoers may get an extra chance to visit the world of "Twilight." With the third installment, "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse," nearly done, Summit Entertainment is prepping to adapt the series' fourth and final book. "Breaking Dawn," though, is weighty enough that the studio is contemplating splitting it into two films, according to Variety . Thing is, Summit only contracted the lead actors, director Chris Weitz and screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg for four films, and the agreement with series author Stephenie Meyer is also only for four films. Are we worried? No. The box-office success of "Twilight" and "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" should help all involved see why an extra payday is worth the time. More worrisome is "Breaking Dawn's" subject matter. Spoilers follow! The book covers the marriage of human Bella and vampire Edward, and so features all the sex not allowed in the first three books. New 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows' picture appears online

You can take the wizard out of Hogwarts... and, well, apparently you can keep him out for the duration of a movie. The first image from "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" has been posted over at USA Today , and it gives a good look of what to expect: Harry, Ron and Hermione spending a lot of time in the drab, ordinary human world. That matches the first part of J.K. Rowling's final "Potter" novel, wherein our heroes travel the magic-less world to gather artifacts that will help them defeat the evil Voldemort once and for all. Due to the book's length, the movie adaptation will be split into two parts, with the second presumably covering the final battle against Voldemort at Hogwarts. Check out the team: Harry ( Daniel Radcliffe ) and Hermione ( Emma Watson ) look appropriately worried, while Ron ( Rupert Grint , middle) definitely looks like he's been missing sleep looking for magic "horcruxes." Syfy adds Stephen King TV series supposedly based on 'The Colorado Kid'

Novelist Stephen King is getting back into the television game, though this latest project has us scratching our heads. Syfy has picked up 13 episodes of an original series, "Haven," purportedly based on King's novella "The Colorado Kid." The thing is, "The Colorado Kid" is about a young journalist who is told the story of a mysterious corpse, a man from Colorado who shows up in Maine in record time. Here's how the Syfy release describes "Haven": "Deep in the heart of Maine, Haven is a town where people with supernatural abilities have migrated for generations because it mutes their powers, allowing them to lead normal lives. 'Twilight: Eclipse' star Robert Pattinson calls Taylor Lautner's body 'strange'

Fans of the first film were surprised to see Taylor Lautner 's new abs in "The Twilight Saga: New Moon." So was co-star Robert Pattison . "I didn't see Taylor until just a little bit before we started shooting," Pattinson told MTV. "When he came back, I had the same reaction as everybody else. I was like, 'Jeez, now I have to go to the gym!' But yeah, it was strange." (The actor, who played vampire Edward Cullen, must have gone to the gym: He did his own disrobing act for the movie.) Despite the abs competition, Pattinson said he and Lautner barely worked together on the second movie, though they'll have more interaction during the third. Have you started your "Twilight Saga: Eclipse" countdown clocks yet? It's only seven months and two days away. Until then -- assuming you've already seen "New Moon" a couple of times and have moved on to anticipating the next installment -- you can gaze upon this, the teaser poster for the third film in the "Twilight" franchise: OK, maybe that won't hold you over for very long, because there's not a whole lot there, is there? Anderson Cooper hosts the third annual "CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute" on Thanksgiving, Nov. 26 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on CNN. Video below. Fox's 'Fringe' set to take seven week hiatus

Joshua Jackson should have some extra time to enjoy the winter Olympics in his hometown of Vancouver early next year. Sources confirm that FOX is putting " Fringe " --which actually shoots in the 'Couv and stars Jackson, John Noble and Anna Torv -- on a seven week hiatus. The schedule has not yet been finalized but the network is expected to air its new midseason drama "Past Life" in "Fringe"'s Thursday timeslot starting February 11th. "Fringe" would then return on April 1st to finish out the second season with its seven remaining episodes. Any thoughts on the plan? FX sinks its teeth into 'Twilight' rights

FX is betting that "Twilight" mania won't have subsided by the end of 2011. The cable channel has picked up the rights to all four movies (or five -- there have been rumors that the final book in the series, "Breaking Dawn," will be split into two films) in the "Twilight" franchise. FX's rights to the series will begin with its debut of "Twilight" in late 2011. "New Moon" will follow in 2012, and "Eclipse," which hits theaters next June, will air in 2013, the showbiz trade papers say. There's no word yet on a time frame for "Breaking Dawn" on FX. The movie is tentatively scheduled to begin filming in the spring and will likely hit theaters in 2011. Showtime has the premium-cable rights to the "Twilight" series and will debut the first movie in January. FX's deal also includes several other films from Summit Entertainment, including the "The Hurt Locker," "Push" and "Knowing." Those movies are slated for 2012. 'FlashForward' reportedly hits the pause button

"FlashForward" is slowing down. The time-bending ABC drama will pause production through the Thanksgiving holiday, according to Variety . While that might seem ominous for a show whose recent ratings numbers have been less that stellar, an ABC rep told the trades the stoppage had been pre-planned since before the show's launch. "They want to maintain the high quality of the show, and this gives the writers the opportunity to do so," the rep told Variety . Wait, so the writers knew they'd need a break to punch up their work? That doesn't reassure us at all. Production on the show is set to resume Nov. 30. We're waiting to hear back from ABC on what the pause means for "FlashForward." More details as we get 'em.
